We went out on a warm, but windy day to plein air paint at the Finley Wildlife Refuge in Western Oregon near Corvallis. We settled on this expansive view of marsh, fields and distant mountains. The colors were rich and bright, chartreusse and gold. The teal blue sky and drifting clouds put on a show for us and were reflected in the water. We painted all afternoon as the light (and the colors) changed and the many birds sang for us.
Sometimes I like to add a little of the local soil to my paint to anchor the painting in the place.
