As I sat in our beautiful Rose Garden park here in Eugene on a sunny spring afternoon, watching the shadows of the trees move across the lawn, I painted this plein air oil painting. I tried to capture the variations of light and shadow in the leaves, and in the pink petals of the dogwood. I knew that my usual cadmium red was not going to capture the delicate pinks of the blooms, so I had added alizarin crimson, pure magenta, and permanent rose to my palette to capture the variations of the light-play on those petals. Spending an afternoon taking in such a beautiful setting fills my brain with happy endorphins and makes my day glow.
About the Artist, Tara lives in Eugene, Oregon, USA, where she is surrounded and inspired by an abundance of natural beauty. Her interest in art began at a young age. She studied Fine Arts at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and had an early career as a designer and maker of art jewelry. For the past 20 years, she has been working as a graphic designer, painter, and illustrator. Tara Kemp is a creature of the Northwest. Through her paintings she reflects on her extraordinary life in Oregon, the people and places she encounters. She is a values painter.
